A Twitter bot is an automated program that controls a Twitter account via the Twitter API. It can perform various actions such as posting tweets, retweeting content, or sending direct messages.
To create a Twitter bot you'll need to apply for a Twitter Developer Account here. Once you have your dev account set up, you should have access to the Twitter Developer Portal:
Make sure you are logged in to the Twitter account you want the bot to run on, as one of the steps below is to authorize the bot to post tweets on your account.
To create your bot you'll need to create a Project first. Click on the "Create Project" button to create one. Enter the project name, use case (in this case "making a bot" seems like a good choice) and description. Once you've done this you should be automatically redirected to the App creation view:
Once you've entered the App name you'll see a set of keys and tokens that are needed for your bot to function properly:
Note them down because you'll not be able to see them again. After saving the keys go to the App settings by clicking the "App settings" button and look for the "User authentication settings":
Click the "Set up" button to set up the authentication settings of your App. There you have to check the "Read and write" App permissions so the bot can post tweets from your account:
In the "Type of App" section choose the "Web App, Automated App or Bot" option:
In the "App info" section you're obliged to enter the Callback URI and the Website URL. If your bot's goal is to just post tweets and it's not going to be used for anything special you can just pass link to your bot's twitter account. Otherwise you probably know what those values are for anyway đ
After that click "Save" and continue. You'll be prompted with some client tokens but they're not needed for the bot so you may skip them. Now, go to the "Keys and tokens" tab:
The last step is to generate the Access Token and Secret for the account you want the bot to run on (that is, post tweets from). After clicking the "Generate" button the above keys should be generated and shown to you:
Once again - note them down as you won't be able to see them again. If everything went well the text under Access Token and Secret should say "Create with Read and Write permissions" which means that your bot is authorized to post.
The tokens you need to integrate your Twitter/X bot with FlipGuard are:
API Key
API Key secret
Access Token
